Para penggemar film dan komik serta pemerhati pop culture baru saja mendapat kabar sedih bahwa legenda Marvel Comics Stan Lee telah meninggal dunia pada usia 95 tahun. Sekarang seluruh Hollywood memberi penghormatan kepada Stan “The Man,” tidak ketinggalan pula para anggota Avengers dan MCU yang turut serta menuliskan penghormatan mereka melalui akun media sosial masing-masing.

Lahir dengan nama Stanley Martin Lieber pada tahun 1922, ia dikenal sebagai pencipta sebagian besar karakter utama pada masa awal Marvel. Karirnya di perusahaan penerbit Martin Goodman dimulai pada tahun 1939 ketika ia menjadi asisten di perusahaan yang kemudian dikenal sebagai Timely Comics. Ia menghabiskan beberapa dekade berikutnya menulis kisah cinta dan komik western, tetapi pada akhir tahun 50-an ketika perusahaan itu sedang berjuang, Lee memutuskan untuk mencoba bersaing dengan popularitas komik DC “Justice League” dengan menciptakan “Fantastic Four” # 1pada bulan November 1961. Bersama dengan dengan Kirby, Lee kemudian menciptakan berbagai karkater komik seperti The Incredible Hulk, The Mighty Thor, The Iron Man, The Ant-Man dan The X-Men. Dengan Steve Ditko ia turut menciptakan Doctor Strange dan Spider-Man, serta Daredevil dengan Bill Everett. Dia juga menghidupkan kembali pahlawan lama dari tahun 1940, termasuk Sub-Mariner dan karya Joe Simon & Jack Kirby, Captain America. Kelompok The Avengers kemudian dihadirkan pada tahun 1963. Sementara karakter ikonik lainnya mengikuti; The Inhumans, Silver Surfer, Black Panther dan The Falcon. Hal ini membuktikan kontribusi kreatif utama Lee di awal 60-an berhasil membentuk inti dari Komik Marvel.
